The final job of the day was to an elderly man with learning difficulties – he’d fallen over in his warden controlled flat.  Luckily for him there were no injuries and after checking him out, we left him happily sitting in his chair.

It’s been a very enjoyable day, and I am so incredibly happy to be back on an ambulance.  But I’m bloody knackered, I need some serious sleep.

Tomorrow I’m going to be single again, and have been told that I should report to Poplar station to work with someone there.  I’ve never worked with this person before, so it should be interesting.

Nighty-night.

Hmmm....

Sent to a job that I think deserves a 'proper' post all to itself. Nothing serious about the patient (an eight year old with an asthma attack), but it touches on quite a big thing in the ambulance service at the moment.

I'll write a post on it in the near future.

Sent to a 40 year old male who had been assaulted. We arrived to find some community support officers looking worried and holding the patient's head.

All very minor injuries, but we took him to hospital with two police in tow

We were sent toward an out of area job 'Male, fell on Monday, now complaining of pain'. As we reached the halfway point to the job we got cancelled for a nearer ambulance.

We got halfway back to station before they sent us across our area to a young man who had been fitting. He hasn't yet been diagnosed with epilepsy, but it seemed quite likely that this was the cause of his fit.

We spent a couple of minutes waiting for him to leave the toilet. We then did all the normal assessments and treatments and drove him to hospital.

He returned the favour by vomiting over the back of our ambulance...

...back to station now for the least sexy part of my job.

Mopping out.

The first call of the day came just as we were about to tuck into our McDonalds breakfast. While the call was given as '84 year old male in diabetic coma', unfortunately the patient had been dead for some time, so there was nothing we could do for him.

While it might seem a little heartless, we were at least able to eat our breakfast and drink our coffee while we waited for the police to turn up...

It's seven am, the start of my shift, and I'm 'single', at the moment there is no-one for me to work with. However I've phoned our resource centre and I've been told that I'll be working with a mate of mine who is coming in for a bit of overtime.

I think I'll drive the ambulance today - after spending nearly a year away from the 'Truck', I could probably do with some practice.

An ambulance is a bit wider than a Vauxhall Astra, so if you are driving (or walking) in Newham today, be wary of the ambulance weaving it's way down the road occasionally clipping the wing mirrors of parked cars...

It’s half past three in the morning.  I need to leave for work at 6:15 but the ‘chest pain, non cardiac, poss. indigestion’ that is the revenge of last nights stir fry woke me up and refused to let me return to sleep.

It’ll be my first day back on a ‘truck’ today.  From 07:00–19:00 I’ll be whizzing around Newham in a big yellow taxi.  Probably…

…you see, my new regular crew mate has been sick for a while, and I don’t think that they will be back today.  So with any luck I’ll have a relief, or someone on overtime working with me rather than me getting sent to work at another station.  I live in hope.

It has been a while since I did a day with regular blogging updates after every job, so I’ll be posting throughout the day via my mobile phone - assuming that I do get a partner to work with me.  There may also be pictures…

…Of course it might also mean that you just read about me craving a cup of tea and whining about only having had three hours of sleep last night.

It’s in the lap of the Gods.
