Many of the Paramedics I've worked with don't use gloves, and then after they've finished treatment they saunter over to the wash stand and rinse their hands, then splash some bleach on, and rinse again.
Not something I'd recommend.
We're all volunteers, so drumming the personal protective mantra into us is a good thing. The professionals play fast and loose, but they KNOW what the risks are.
