I never met the man, but I can't help thinking he kicked the football and drank the champagne and slept with the women and so on and so forth either because he wanted to, or in the case of the football and public appearances because he was also being paid to. When he assaulted the police officer, or drove drunk, or otherwise behaved like a prat, as mentioned above in the comments, I very much doubt he was thinking "how nice I'm being, this will create income for journalists and police officers and court officials". I'd also be prepared to hazard a guess that any addictions counsellors he saw - and therefore "created a job for" - would have been happier for him if he'd not become a high-profile addict, glorifying a destructive path. You may wish to look up the definition of "selfless".
