My parents have a smoke detector.
A couple of months ago they had an actual fire in the kitchen (luckily quite small and fairly easily extinguished). The smoke detector didn't even blip.
However it continues to scream when they have certain brands of sausages, more than two rounds of toast, Christmas dinner...
