We used to be cheeky and get lifts from crews, Its much less these days. Personally I have been given a lift but thrown out when a call came along I've also been late because of going on a call. This is the risk you take and thats fine. I see no problem with it and actually it can promote good? Better relationships, Another trained pair of hands should the worst happern, bit of company for the bored crew.
I read that the crew involed have admitted lack of judgement on this occasion which is sad. They could even face dismissal which is worse.
