This was certainly a stupid thing for him to do, but I am curious about the actual mechanism of injury. As I understand it, AEDs don't start someone's heart beating, they stop it - that way, if it's fibrillating then it will start up with steady beating. So, if your heart is working normally, and you stop it, is that less likely to re-start normally? Or is it that it's not guaranteed to work either way, but someone who's dying has less to lose by risking it?
