A cab from New Addington to the Mayday would have cost ten pounds at the most. (It costs £160 every time an ambulance is sent out). I find it hard to believe that a family didn't have ten pounds they could use in an emergency, or that they didn't know *anyone* with a car. Plus, how did they expect to get back from the hospital? They certainly wouldn't have been sent an ambulance for that!
Personally I think this call should have been refused from the outset (something we're not allowed to do), then the father would have been forced to make alternative arrangements and the poor kid wouldn't have been languishing in pain for an hour.
