The point I was trying to make is that these labels are applied by politicians and the media, the public then use them because they think the terms are correct; and no one "in authority" bothers to correct this because it suits their purpose for the misinformation to continue. Para/EMT is a relatively minor example - it happens on much more significant things, e.g WMD/no plans to introduce University tuition fees/The NHS is safe with us.
