Sadly, you're not the only one. As I said, some of the situations I've heard of are enough to make you cry (or explode with fury). As someone else said, just about everyone I know who deals with the current system has every intention of ending things before they become dependant on that kind of care. And while there are some amazing residential/nursing homes around with great staff, there are plenty more with disinterested, overworked, understaffed and/or untrained staff. The two areas of healthcare probably more neglected than any others are psychiatric and geriatric services. If you have a mental illness or you're old, you can easily end up with second class care. God forbid you have both - you might end up being isolated from your family for 6 months because they literally lose you and don't know what care facility you've been moved to (one my family experienced personally).
