That boy was a selfish, self centred idiot - that is what heroin thrives on. His poor family. My friend had a son who was just the same - he was from a loving family, well educated, good looking, refined manners but complete with a personality flaw which led him to throw all that away for the sake of heroin. He died, a wreck, in a squat in the city, surrounded by the usual detritus of addiction. His mother was shattered. She never recovered.
