Well, I started high school about 10 years ago and we had to do a compulsory St Johns first aid certificate as part of the first year's (age 13/14) "Life Skills" course, with an option to do a refresher course in the Sixth Form. Then I went off to work and was required to attend the work-based training for "first aid in the workplace" and assorted Health and Safety doodahs. But, I guess if I was one of those who bunked off school and didn't get a long-term job, I'd be clueless.
