I think I've got to chip in and say that most carers do care and get on with their job efficiently and without fuss which is why you don't notice them. It's only the few bad apples that get noticed and then the whole profession gets tarred with the same brush. It's one of the jobs that if you're doing it right (paid or unpaid) is easy to overlook. Unfortunately, people like Tom are more likely to happen on cases where it's gone wrong.
