I agree that it's a bad thing that we have become a society where some people think it's "okay" to get violent with other people or other people's property. But the job of the police is not to administer justice or punishments. We have courts and juries and so on for a reason, and part of that reason is to keep us very definitely distinct from things like the Taliban regime.
