Klondyke is right and I reckon Caz's guess that it was misinterpreted / passed on wrongly, is correct. The 'homely measures' rehydration mix does exactly the same job as the hugely overpriced rehydration mixtures from pharmacies. Maybe the GP was trying to save the old lady money, but the missing 'litre of boiled water' is crucial!
