Yep, we sometimes do the same thing, especially if traffic is bad - it could be for whatever reason we think warrents the risk of running on blue.
And having rolled up to the hospital with a drunk patient who decided to drop his GCS to 3 and lose his gag reflex outside the A&E, I can well understand the invisible forcefield.
And yes, the staff in the hospitals have never given me trouble over my choice to blue/not blue in a patient.
