I shouldn't let the likes of Dr Crippen goad me, (but they do) because that's exactly the reaction they are looking for. They like to give the impression that they are willing to engage in lively debate and are willing hear another side of the argument,but realistically you know they will always pull the 'superior intellect' and 'seven years at medical school' card's; and dismiss your thoughts or comments as valueless. What I have often witnessed is a highly developed sense of confidence and self righteousness that tip's over into arrogance. I have seen this in both social and medical situations.
