Absolutely. I wholeheartedly agree that there isn't enough science (and I mean *good* science) going into social planning in this country. It's a shame that no-one can think of how to turn a homebirth vs. consultant led birth into a profit making study. Then we'd have hundreds of the studies popping up. Frankly it scares me as to how easily the media informs government decision making, and how little *real* science informs the media. (See Ben Goldacre's excellent blog for further examples).
