Re: My Seven Things
by obidom
Tom I have something i wanted your insight on, totally off topic for your post First of all just a little background, I trained Merseyside Regional first aid certified 1999-2002, and recently completed my St Johns to be first responder in work (dealt mainly with work related injuries) Now tonight i actually had to do this for a member of the public (its 18.05 at night train due with 5 mins, takes me nearly 2 hours to get home, is an hour between trains) Now a gentleman is standing next to me doing crosswords in his paper when he suddenly puts his paper up and back off panic stricken as if trying to fend off a horde of wasps, everyone looks to see what is happening, he keeps going backwards till he hits the stairs and collapse, he then goes into a 'fit' (no flailing limbs, just vigorous tremors) "oh hell" is my first thought, i rush forward and grab his head to stop him hitting the floor, a fellow passenger comes over and i ask him to help me move him flat down onto the floor, i ask another passenger to call an ambulance and tell control that we have a fitting male, (i have to say they are right about those 8 minutes being the longest of your life!!) I hold the guys had and let him ride out the fit, another passenger tries to hold his legs but i tell him to stop and just let the fit ride out, once the fit has subsided i then ask another passenger to help roll him onto his side (had bitten his mouth lot of blood stained saliva, don't want him to choke) so rather than put him into the recovery position (in case he fits again) i merely roll him onto his side and place my hand under hit head to support it He then seems to come alive but simply grabs my hand and holds it to his ace, pulls his coat hood over his face and seems to fall asleep, i check his breathing, can see him breathing, then the snoring starts (not my idea of a first date but what the hell!!) so in total he has fitted for 2 mins and lies asleep on the floor for 2 mins more, then he suddenly comes awake, jumps up and backs away from me as if i am a Thai ladyboy proposing him a naughty night! He then becomes quite combative, kicking things in a rage, i tell the passengers to move away and give him room (thankfully the station master turns up) now we finally manage to coax the guy away from the edge of the platform, he seem aggressive then confused, he doesn't know where he is, his name or anything, Now this is what i want to know.. The train pulls up, i have told the 2 guards on the platform what has happened, they are keeping the lad sat down (between his jumping up and trying to run off) i jump on the train and come home...now i am doubting my call, should i have stayed until the medics arrived and given first hand info or would the second hand info from someone who wasn't there help?
