I can see why Crippen was annoyed about the patient not being admitted. But likewise, your comment made a lot of sense, it was like his misunderstanding of what ambulance folks do and why they do it. Just really a lack of insight and a gap between expectation and reality. In the end, I agree with your logic. I think he's getting to the stage when he hates anything that isn't him... At least that's the way his writing seems to be going.
