Most of us spend our lives ducking and diving the very issues that face you and your colleagues on a daily basis; the fact that we all will die and we have very little influence, if any, if it will be a 'good one' or at the 'right time' So I am not surprised that when the January blues hit (factor in the shift work for a deeper shade of blue) I am not surprised that it kicks the feet from under you.
