Re: Effiks, Morails 'N Snow

This is a really tricky one. As a hospital pharmacist, I have been in a similar situation in the past, albeit on a ward, which possibly made it a bit easier.
If you do give it back, then technically this could count as dealing. On the other hand, you cannot legally destroy a controlled drug, so if you flush it down the loo/drain, tempting as it may be, you could get disciplined for that. I think on balance I would probably get your partner to witness you taking custody of the drug, and take it to the nearest police station as soon as the call was over, and get them to sign to say that they received the drug from you, to safeguard yourself from any accusation of theft. As it was only a small amount, presumably for personal use, I would not break patient confidentiality, & would decline to give her details to the police. If, on the other hand, it was a large enough amount for you to suspect her of dealing, then I would give her details to the police.
Hope the foot gets better soon, Tom.
