The recommended dose is "no more than 4g in 24 hrs." The toxic dose is around 15g. Pretty scary. There are plenty of prescription drugs that are more benign than that. Gives you some idea of the power of the pharmaceutical industry. And advertising.
(I found that here. The article is actually about toxicity in alcoholics, and it wasn't what I expected.)
