I have a PRS-500 of my own (based in London too), I do actually buy my books, but I cheat a bit, I purchase them from www.fictionwise.com as Secure Microsoft Reader format (.lit) and then remove the DRM (*cough*) with a program called ConvertLIT (often the first word is abbreviated), then use libprs500 to convert from .lit to Sony LRF format, the software is all free
