I've seen Anne Widdecombe use the "lack of actual cures" as an argument, but I have also seen the religious argument being pushed. But the religious argument is still valid.
It's perfectly valid for someone to allow their religion to inform their voting (whether in Parliament or at the ballot box). The religion argument basically boils down to question of the dignity of the human life-form, and whether deliberately creating a life in order to destroy it is justified even if it can be used to relieve suffering.
