The answer is that they're all both victims and villains in different ways.
An alcoholic is a victim of alcohol addiction. It's an on going thing and it's sad. A person who punched you in the face is a villain. If a person who punches you in the the face happens to be an alcoholic, well, I don't think it changes very much.
If in doubt, fall back on a good ol' saying: "Two wrongs don't make a right."
