Dementia in an otherwise healthy former athletics teacher was the reason some of my relatives had to put a dearly loved father into a care home. Once he became violent, he was a big danger to himself and everyone else. One of his children had been a social worker for decades, and happened to know every care facility in the area. So they managed to find a good one for him, but that's what it took. Scary.
