As part of my nurse training we were asked to write a reflection on this and I looked at it from each angle - HCP, Patient, and Public. I could not find any one way that I would chose. If you don't report it to the Police and they leave hospital and stab a granny less than 2ft out the doors, then I would be questioned as to why I didn't report it. If I did report it the patient could technically sue me for breach of their confidentiality and their human rights. It's catch 22.
