Reminds me of a conversation with a work colleague a few years back. He came in to work one morning looking rather ashen. On his drive into work he'd had to pull someone from a burning car. As he was an ex-A&E nurse I suggested it must have been re-assuring to be able to use his old skills. He looked at me like the idiot I was and said " yeh but in A&E we have people and kit - all I could do was keep this guy conscious until the blues arrived". I took his point.
