The NHS lost my paper records. I certainly wouldn't trust them with digital ones. At least the number of people who might be able to access those lost paper records is somewhat limited!
I've started getting pushy with my docs here in the US asking them for results of lab tests etc to be sent to me - that way I have a record. It has proven useful on at least one occasion already when, just like in the UK, moving from one town to another resulted in the loss of my records.
