Friends who were sensible and got tested were refused a mortgage, because they'd taken the test. On hearing of this (not from me) some, to my mind really irresponsible, gay aquaintances refused to be tested, despite a high risk life-style, which they presumably also kept quiet about, and got a mortgage, only for one to succumb to HIV related disease later on.
I REALLY hope that situation has changed since (this was twenty-odd years ago) because though I can appreciate that someone who smokes/drinks is a higher insurance risk, surely being sensible about precautionary testing should not be penalised, which brings me to the point of this comment, though others will no doubt have expressed it better:
just what would you be prepared to tell your GP if you know it's going on a national database, viewable by insurance companies, potential employers...I for one would keep schtum about ANY sexual mishaps, ANY form of mental illness, including PND, in short anything bar childhood innoculations.
