I had a suicidal urge once that started turning into action. Luckily, I snapped out of it as I was opening the drawer to get the knife. But, had I snapped out of it thirty seconds later... So I think that's why, for the genuine attempts that suddenly change their minds. The urge can wax and wane, even over a matter of minutes. Honestly, when the pain was really bad, I use to crave death the way some people on diets crave chocolate cake.
