In my usual cynical way, I have a theory about this. I may have heard it from someone else. It is built in obsolescence.
They get more money from selling something new & shiny than from reissuing tried and tested ones. I am sure that the suit wearers at BeanCounter Central insist on it.
On the positive side, it means that people who want to write new stuff may actually have a hope.
