I imagine you'd be amused to find that the 'drunk tent' (option 3) that St John Ambulance assist the LAS with around New Year is one of the most popular SJA duties and is usually massively over-booked for first-aiders - so a lot of people end up getting turned away.
It's a great chance for us to learn from the LAS, and get some decent experience in patient monitoring.
I suspect the main reason for it NOT being year-round is financial. As are most things.
