Don't mock the magic powers of the cup of water. Many a child has been sent away feeling much better from sipping a cup of water and resting for 10 minutes and many more feel immensely better from having cotton wool/dressings soaked in water applied to their "wounds".
(don't footballers have magic sponges too?)
